A father in Utawala, Machakos County, has been arrested after a playful moment with his young daughter ended in tragedy. The incident, which occurred on Saturday, October 4, 2025, has left the local community in shock and raised questions about how such a heartbreaking accident could lead to a murder investigation.
According to police reports, the man was playing with his two-year and nine-month-old daughter at their home when the child accidentally fell to the ground. Witnesses said the father had been tossing the little girl into the air in a playful gesture when she slipped from his hands and landed heavily on the ground. She sustained severe injuries and was immediately rushed to a nearby private hospital, but doctors pronounced her dead on arrival.
When police officers arrived at the scene, they found the distraught father standing beside his daughter’s body. He reportedly explained that the incident was purely accidental and that he never intended any harm. However, police officers took him into custody on suspicion of murder as investigations into the circumstances surrounding the child’s death began. The girl’s body was later moved to the mortuary for a postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
Authorities said the decision to arrest the father was procedural, meant to allow investigators to establish whether negligence or foul play was involved. Detectives are expected to rely on medical and forensic reports before determining the next course of action.
In a separate incident in Nandi Hills, police launched investigations after a 35-year-old casual labourer identified as Evans Saina was stabbed to death during an argument. The victim sustained a fatal chest wound and died instantly. The assailant fled the scene and is currently being pursued by police.
Elsewhere in Ruiru, Kiambu County, the body of an unidentified man was found along the Ruiru–Githunguri road with visible bruises and a broken hip joint. Investigators are probing whether the death resulted from a road accident or foul play.
Meanwhile, in Mbooni, Makueni County, police discovered the partially mauled body of a 37-year-old man identified as Kimathi Muli. Officers suspect he may have been killed before wild animals attacked his remains. The body was moved to the mortuary for an autopsy as investigations continue.
