A 24-year-old medical student was tragically stabbed to death during a violent altercation with her colleagues in Makindu Town, Makueni County. The incident, which occurred in the Kalimandogo area, has left residents and fellow students in shock as police launch investigations into the suspected love triangle that turned deadly.
The deceased, identified as Gloria Njiru, lived in a shared house with three other students from a medical college in Thika. The group was in Makindu for a medical attachment at the Makindu Sub County Hospital. According to witnesses, a heated argument broke out among the students over undisclosed issues before it escalated into a physical confrontation.
Neighbours reported hearing screams from the students’ hostel before discovering that two of them had suffered serious stab wounds. Gloria was rushed to the local hospital, but she was pronounced dead on arrival. A second student was admitted to the hospital with knife injuries on the neck and hands and is currently under police guard.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the fight may have been triggered by a dispute related to a romantic relationship among the students. Police at the scene arrested one suspect linked to the stabbing and recovered the weapon used in the attack.
The body of the deceased was transferred to the local mortuary for a postmortem examination as detectives continue to piece together the events that led to the fatal confrontation. Authorities have also summoned the parents of the affected students to Makindu for discussions and official identification.
In a separate incident in Nyandarua County, a 37-year-old woman was found dead by the roadside in Oljoroko area, with police suspecting her boyfriend to be behind the killing. Meanwhile, in Kisumu County, a night guard was discovered murdered at a construction site under unclear circumstances.
The recent surge in murder cases across the country has raised concern among residents and authorities alike, with police intensifying efforts to curb the growing wave of violent crimes.
