Police in Gatundu South, Kiambu County, have launched a manhunt for an assistant chief from Kamunyu sub-location who is accused of drugging and molesting two underage boys in a disturbing incident that has left the local community in shock.
The administrator, who has since gone into hiding, allegedly committed the crimes on April 20, 2025. According to one of the victims, he and two friends had gone to the assistant chief’s home to deliver milk. The official invited the boys into a separate house, where he offered them muratina, a traditional alcoholic brew.
The victim recounted that after his friends left to check on a neighbour, he stayed behind and soon lost consciousness. He later woke up at home, confused and in physical distress, with mud on his body. A subsequent medical examination confirmed that he had been abused. The incident was reported to the police at Gatundu Police Station under OB No. 04/24/04/25.
On the same night, the assistant chief allegedly pursued the remaining boys to a nearby compound. One of them described how the administrator approached him with inappropriate questions and behavior, before attempting to further assault him. However, the boy managed to escape and has provided a statement to the police.
The two victims are currently recovering at home, but they remain fearful as the suspect is still on the run. It is believed that the assistant chief fled after learning that angry residents were searching for him. Community members have expressed deep shock and disappointment, as the suspect had been a trusted local official for many years. He had even undergone training for religious leadership, which made the allegations all the more unsettling.
Parents of the victims, Mary Wambui and Jane Njoki, emphasized how the accused had earned the community’s trust and respect, making the situation even more disturbing. They also claimed that the assistant chief attempted to bribe the families of the victims to prevent them from reporting the crimes. This has fueled suspicions among residents that there may have been other, previously unreported incidents involving the assistant chief, possibly suppressed through threats or coercion.
The incident has rocked the local community, leading to expressions of anger and disbelief. The assistant chief, who had been a long-serving administrator in the area, had once held a position of trust and responsibility, which only intensifies the sense of betrayal felt by residents.
Gatundu South Assistant County Commissioner, Rose Chege, confirmed that investigations are ongoing and that efforts to apprehend the suspect are intensifying. She assured the public that the victims had received medical attention and that authorities were committed to pursuing justice. “We have ensured that the victims received the necessary medical support, and we are focused on bringing the suspect to justice,” she said.
As the search for the assistant chief continues, authorities are urging anyone with information about his whereabouts to come forward. The local community remains on edge, as they await the outcome of the investigation and hope for swift justice. The case has sparked a broader conversation about the abuse of power and the vulnerability of children in the community, with many calling for greater vigilance in safeguarding the welfare of minors.
