Police in Narok County are investigating a shocking incident in which a Grade 9 KJSEA candidate was found murdered and her body dumped in a sugarcane farm. The deceased, identified as a pupil from Engoiperien School in Angata Barikoi Ward, was discovered with her neck slit open and multiple injuries across her body.
According to local authorities, the young girl was on her way to school to sit for her Kenya Junior Secondary Education Assessment (KJSEA) exams but never arrived. Her body was later discovered in a nearby sugarcane plantation, triggering panic and anger among residents of the area.
Police officers, accompanied by local administrators, arrived at the scene shortly after the discovery and moved the body to the Lolgorian Hospital mortuary. Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have since taken over the case to establish the motive behind the killing and identify those responsible.
Residents expressed deep shock and outrage over the incident, calling for immediate action against the perpetrators. Community leader Wilson Bett condemned the brutal murder, terming it “horrible and unacceptable,” and urged police to move swiftly to apprehend those involved. He added that the community would fully cooperate with the authorities to ensure justice for the slain student.
Hundreds of villagers gathered at the scene upon learning of the discovery, expressing sorrow and disbelief at the killing of a young learner during the national examinations period. Security agencies have since intensified patrols in the region to guarantee the safety of pupils sitting for their exams.
Local administrators assured residents that measures have been put in place to ensure that the ongoing KJSEA and KPSEA exams proceed smoothly in all schools within the county. They also appealed to members of the public with any information related to the incident to report to the nearest police station to aid in the investigation.
Meanwhile, in Elgeyo Marakwet County, the delivery of KJSEA and KPSEA exam papers was disrupted after Rivers Chesongoch and Embobut burst their banks, flooding roads and cutting off access to several schools. Authorities said efforts were underway to restore safe passage and ensure all candidates sit their exams as planned.
