A chilling murder in Chemamul village, Ololunga, Narok South has left residents in shock after police arrested a man suspected of killing and dismembering his close friend. The suspect was apprehended over the weekend following the disappearance of 27-year-old Philemon Kirui Mutai.
According to police reports, the incident is believed to have occurred on Saturday. By Sunday evening, only the lower half of the victim’s body had been recovered, found stashed in a nylon sack approximately 200 metres from the suspect’s house.
Philemon’s disappearance was reported by his mother, Lily Mutai, who said he had been missing since Thursday. Concerned about his safety, family members went to the home of his close friend, with whom he was reportedly living. There, they noticed suspicious blood stains on the door frame, window, and interior walls.
The family confronted the suspect, leading to the discovery of a blood-stained panga and a wooden stick—believed to be the murder weapons. The man was subsequently handed over to officers at the Nkoben Police Post.
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Narok South later combed through the scene, confirming the grim discovery of the lower part of Kirui’s body. The torso and head remain missing as investigators intensify the search.
A police report noted that the motive for the brutal killing is still unclear, though authorities confirmed that the deceased and the suspect were close friends and lived in the same village. The recovered remains were positively identified by family members and taken to the Narok County Referral Hospital morgue, where a post-mortem examination is expected.
Local residents expressed fear and disbelief over the gruesome nature of the crime. Authorities have since launched a manhunt for the missing body parts, which are crucial for completing the forensic investigation and piecing together the events that led to the horrific death.
Meanwhile, the suspect remains in custody as detectives pursue leads to unravel the motive behind the grisly murder that has shaken the quiet community of Chemamul.
