A shocking theft occurred on Thursday when a Health Ministry driver was drugged and robbed of a government four-wheel-drive vehicle carrying assorted drugs in Kilgoris Town.
According to police, the driver had parked the vehicle outside a local joint to get refreshments. While there, a stranger approached and engaged him briefly. The man offered a ride to his residence, and during the trip, the driver was drugged. He later regained consciousness in Kipkebe Tea Plantation in Sotik, Bomet County nearly 200 kilometres away. His vehicle and personal belongings were missing.
The driver was found tied at the scene and taken to a local police station to report the incident. He was later admitted to a hospital for medical attention as investigations continue. Authorities are probing the theft, which highlights the growing security risks around government vehicles and drug transport in the region.
In a separate incident in Naiberi, Eldoret, a gang of five raided a home and stole jewellery, Sh100,000, a laptop, and other valuables while the family was at the mosque on November 8. The gang reportedly used a Toyota Prado during the robbery.
Meanwhile, in Nandi Hills, a teacher was robbed of Sh280,000 after withdrawing funds from a bank for a teachers’ conference scheduled in Mombasa. The cash, laptop, cheque book, and a list of conference members were taken from his parked car within minutes. Police are reviewing CCTV footage and suspect that the theft may have involved inside information from acquaintances.
These incidents reflect a worrying rise in thefts involving both public servants and private citizens. Authorities are urging the public to exercise caution, particularly when handling cash or transporting valuable items, and are stepping up investigations to curb these crimes.
