Police have busted a sophisticated electronics theft syndicate in Kayole, Nairobi, following a high-tech operation that started with the tracing of a stolen iPhone 15.
The breakthrough came after the smartphone, reported stolen recently, was electronically tracked to Breeze Point Apartments on Turin Court in Mihang’o. Acting swiftly, officers from Embakasi Police Station raided the premises and uncovered a major stash of suspected stolen goods.
During the raid, police recovered 321 assorted mobile phones, seven laptops, multiple mobile phone covers, laptop chargers, an LG music system, and two speakers, along with the traced iPhone 15. Two suspects were arrested at the scene and remain in custody pending arraignment.
Authorities believe the apartment served as a storage hub for a wider criminal network dealing in stolen electronics across Nairobi. Investigations are ongoing to establish whether the suspects are linked to other reported theft cases in the city.
The success of the raid has been attributed to swift police action and the cooperation of vigilant community members who provided crucial information. Law enforcement officials emphasized that public collaboration remains key in dismantling organized crime syndicates that target unsuspecting residents and businesses.
The discovery sheds light on the growing menace of organized phone and electronics theft rings operating in Nairobi’s suburbs. Police have vowed to intensify crackdowns on such syndicates and called on residents to remain alert, report suspicious activities, and avoid purchasing second-hand electronics of questionable origin. Officials warned that buying stolen goods not only sustains underground markets but also exposes buyers to potential prosecution.
In addition to the Kayole raid, security agencies also addressed recent concerns about safety within Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD). This comes after a brazen incident on August 22, when armed criminals broke into shops along Kimathi Street in broad daylight. One suspect has already been arrested in connection with the attack, with further investigations underway.
Police have reassured the public that the city remains safe for business and that measures are being reinforced to safeguard residents, traders, and visitors. With enhanced surveillance, intelligence-led operations, and community partnership, authorities are determined to dismantle theft syndicates and restore confidence in Nairobi’s security.
