Juja Member of Parliament George Koimburi has pleaded not guilty to accusations of faking his own abduction, publishing false information, and conspiring to defeat the course of justice. The legislator, who appeared frail and in poor health, stood before Milimani Principal Magistrate Benmark Ekhubi where he denied all charges leveled against him.
Koimburi appeared in court following an order that required his presence in relation to the charges. The prosecution alleges that the MP conspired with six others to stage-manage his disappearance on May 25, 2025, in Mugutha area, Juja Sub-County, Kiambu County. This alleged self-abduction was reportedly aimed at evading arrest and arraignment over separate land fraud charges already pending against him.
The court proceedings saw the prosecution push for the MP to submit himself for fingerprint processing, insisting that the exercise should be done without delay. The State proposed Thursday, July 24, 2025, for the procedure. However, Koimburi’s lawyer objected, citing scheduled medical clinics for Thursday and Friday, and suggested Tuesday, July 29, instead. The State countered with a proposal for the weekend.
In his ruling, Magistrate Ekhubi directed Koimburi to appear for fingerprint processing on Friday, July 25, 2025, at 9 AM. The court upheld the previous bail terms of Ksh300,000 and ordered that three contact persons remain assigned to him throughout the proceedings.
The other six accused persons include Peter Kiratu, Njuguna alias Njugush, Kanyenya-ini MCA Grace Nduta Wairimu, Peter Kiratu Mbari, David Macharia Gatana, and Cyrus Muhia. According to the charge sheet, all are accused of participating in the plan to stage the abduction to delay legal proceedings and obstruct justice.
The Office of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) believes the staged abduction was orchestrated to frustrate Koimburi’s expected appearance at the Kiambu Law Courts, where he was scheduled to respond to four counts related to alleged land fraud. The DPP’s position is supported by a letter issued on May 20, 2025, directing his arrest and arraignment.
The case will be mentioned again on August 5, 2025.
