A 26-year-old man is being sought by police after allegedly hacking his father to death during a dispute over medication for his ailing mother in Emanyasa village, Kakamega County, on July 20, 2025. The victim, identified as 66-year-old Calisto Osundwa, died after sustaining severe head injuries in the attack.
Preliminary reports indicate that the confrontation began when father and son argued about why the mother, who has been unwell, had not taken her prescribed drugs. Osundwa reportedly told his son he had misplaced the medicine, triggering a violent outburst. The suspect is said to have grabbed a panga and a wooden stick and struck his father repeatedly. Neighbours responded to screams but found Osundwa critically injured.
He was rushed to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his wounds. The assailant fled the scene and remains at large as a police manhunt continues. Officers have secured the homestead and recorded statements from witnesses while also checking on the condition of the ailing mother.
In a separate incident in Sidindi, Ugunja subcounty of Siaya County, authorities recovered the body of an approximately 55-year-old woman in an unoccupied house. The body bore signs of a violent assault, including a swollen face, deep cuts to the head and a cloth tied around the neck. A pool of blood was found at the scene. Investigators have moved the body to the mortuary for autopsy and identification as they probe the motive.
Elsewhere in Ganze, Kilifi County, 58-year-old Gabriel Kombe was found murdered in a pool of blood while returning home after attending a funeral on July 19. He had deep cuts to the head and no immediate suspects were identified. Detectives are appealing for information from members of the public who may have seen him on the route home.
Police across the affected regions say murder cases have recently been on the rise, with several matters already before the courts and others under active investigation. Investigations in all three incidents are ongoing. Members of the public with information are urged to contact the nearest police station or report anonymously through community policing channels.
