Two Kenyan activists, Bob Njagi and Nicholas Oyoo, have reportedly gone missing in Uganda after an alleged abduction by armed men on Wednesday afternoon.
The duo had been accompanying opposition leader and National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate Bobi Wine on his campaign trail when they were reportedly forced into a vehicle in Kireka, a suburb of Kampala.
Witnesses said four men armed with guns and traveling in a grey van confronted the activists at a petrol station, where they had stopped to repair their car. The two were whisked away, and their phones immediately switched off.
Bobi Wine confirmed the incident on social media, strongly condemning the abductions.
“We condemn the continuing lawlessness by the rogue regime and demand that these brothers are released unconditionally! The criminal regime apparently abducted them simply for associating with me and expressing solidarity with our cause,” he posted.
Njagi, chairman of the Free Kenya Movement, had earlier been seen in campaign videos with Bobi Wine in Kamuli District, Eastern Uganda. Alongside Oyoo, he was part of the NUP entourage as they traversed rural areas rallying support ahead of Uganda’s 2026 elections.
Friends of the missing activists said they had traveled from Kenya on Monday, linking up with NUP leaders the following day. Their journey was cut short on Wednesday when unidentified armed men staged the abduction.
There has been no official comment from authorities in either Kenya or Uganda.
The incident has reignited concerns about the safety of activists in the region. Just months ago, Kenyan activist Boniface Mwangi and Ugandan activist Agather Atuhaire were detained in Tanzania before being dumped near their respective borders, both claiming abuse while in custody.
This is not the first time Njagi has faced such an ordeal. Last year, he was abducted alongside the Longton brothers over alleged ties to anti-government protests and disappeared for weeks before his release.
Rights groups and political observers are now calling for the immediate and unconditional release of the two Kenyan activists.
