Law enforcement officers in Kisii South have intercepted a major drug trafficking attempt, recovering five and a half gunny bags of bhang from a Toyota Sienta along the Migori–Kisumu Highway.
The operation was launched after officers received intelligence regarding a suspicious vehicle transporting narcotics. Acting swiftly, police from Gesonso set up a roadblock targeting the suspected vehicle, a dark grey Toyota Sienta. Upon being flagged down, the driver defied orders, rammed through metal spikes, and attempted to speed off in a desperate bid to escape arrest.
A dramatic chase ensued as officers pursued the vehicle. The spikes had already punctured the car’s tires, and after a short pursuit, the Toyota Sienta was immobilized. The driver, a 43-year-old man, abandoned the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot. However, he was quickly subdued and taken into custody.
A thorough search of the vehicle revealed five and a half gunny bags filled with cannabis sativa, commonly known as bhang. Both the narcotics and the vehicle were secured as exhibits. The suspect is currently being processed and will be arraigned in court to face charges related to drug trafficking.
This arrest highlights the increasing vigilance of security agencies in Kisii and surrounding regions, where highways have become common routes for trafficking narcotics. The interception demonstrates the importance of timely intelligence from members of the public in aiding law enforcement to combat the drug menace.
