Two suspected drug traffickers have been apprehended in Kitutu Central Sub-County, Kisii County, with 30 kilograms of suspected cannabis sativa. The arrest took place during a routine mobile patrol along the Kisii-Migori highway on Saturday, August 2, 2025. Law enforcement officers intercepted the suspects and uncovered the large stash of bhang, marking yet another significant milestone in the country’s war against narcotics.
The suspects are currently in custody and are scheduled to appear in court on Monday, August 4, 2025. This successful operation reinforces the resolve of law enforcement agencies to intensify efforts aimed at curbing drug-related crimes, particularly in counties known for drug transit routes.
The Kisii operation is part of a broader, ongoing national crackdown on drug trafficking. Just a day earlier, on August 1, police officers conducted an intelligence-led operation in Kirwara Shopping Centre, Murang’a County. In this operation, a known drug peddler was apprehended, and 63 rolls of bhang concealed in his jacket were recovered. The suspect was taken into custody and is awaiting arraignment.
Earlier in the week, another successful operation was conducted in Likoni, Mombasa County, on July 30. Acting on a tip-off from members of the public, officers raided a house in the Soweto area. During the search, authorities seized 38 rolls of cannabis along with suspected stolen property, including two TV sets, a laptop, a coffee maker, gas cylinders, and several identification documents. Two suspects were arrested in the raid and are in custody pending further investigations and court proceedings.
These consecutive arrests and seizures underscore the seriousness with which security agencies are addressing the issue of bhang trafficking in Kenya. The coordination between police units and the active participation of the public through timely information-sharing has played a critical role in the recent successes.
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to dismantling drug trafficking networks across the country. They continue to urge citizens to report suspicious activities to support the ongoing fight against drugs and safeguard communities from the harmful effects of narcotics.
