A police officer attached to the Critical Infrastructure Police Unit (CIPU) in Athi River is set to appear before the Kajiado Law Court on Monday, August 11, 2025, over the alleged murder of a fellow officer in Kitengela. The incident, which has shocked residents, is reported to have stemmed from a heated confrontation over a romantic relationship.
The deceased, identified as Manasseh Ithiru, had been serving at the Kitengela Police Station for two years. On the evening of the tragedy, he reportedly visited the home of 27-year-old Irene Wavinya at around 7 p.m. Not long after, another man Said Abubakar, also claiming to be Wavinya’s boyfriend and a fellow police officer arrived unexpectedly. Using a spare key, Abubakar gained entry into the apartment.
According to witnesses, a heated argument erupted, quickly escalating into a physical altercation. Neighbours reported hearing shouting and accusations of infidelity before spotting the two men struggling on the apartment’s balcony. In the midst of the scuffle, Abubakar allegedly overpowered Ithiru and threw him from the fourth floor. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Residents, still reeling from the shocking event, have voiced concern over the moral decay and lack of conflict resolution in relationships. Some stressed the importance of faithfulness to avoid violent confrontations, while others noted that emotional outbursts can quickly turn lethal if not controlled.
Authorities have confirmed that both officers were in civilian attire and unarmed at the time. Isinya Sub-County Police Commander described the incident as deeply regrettable and offered condolences to the family of the deceased, noting that investigations are ongoing.
In a further twist, investigators revealed that Wavinya will also be probed for her role in the incident, with possible murder charges under consideration. The matter has been described as highly sensitive due to the involvement of law enforcement personnel on both sides.
