A police officer based at Kitengela Police Station has died in what authorities suspect to be a murder linked to a love triangle. The incident occurred at an apartment complex along Deliverance Road, approximately three kilometres from the police station.
The deceased, identified as Police Constable Manasseh Ithiru, had reportedly visited his girlfriend, Irene Wavinya Nzioka, a tenant at the apartment block known as Geoffrey Flats. While at her residence, a second man later identified as Sergeant Abubakar Said, also a police officer arrived at the house. Investigators believe that both men were romantically involved with the same woman.
According to preliminary investigations, a heated confrontation broke out between the two officers shortly after the sergeant arrived. It is alleged that during the altercation, Sgt. Said overpowered Constable Ithiru and pushed him off the fourth-floor balcony of the apartment. The constable fell to the parking lot below, where he died on the spot from severe injuries.
A bodaboda rider who had earlier dropped Constable Ithiru at the apartment was the first to report the incident. Officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Kitengela responded swiftly and found the body of the deceased lying in a pool of blood, exhibiting multiple injuries, including severe head trauma. The body was later taken to Shalom Hospital mortuary, where a postmortem examination will be conducted to confirm the exact cause of death.
Both Sgt. Abubakar Said and Irene Wavinya Nzioka were arrested at the scene. They are currently in custody and are assisting detectives with the ongoing investigation.
The case has been classified as a murder and is being handled by the DCI office in Kitengela. Investigators are working to piece together the full details surrounding the fatal incident, including reviewing witness statements and forensic evidence from the scene.
The incident has shocked residents in the area and raised concerns over the conduct of security officers, particularly when personal disputes escalate into violence. Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
