A tragic domestic incident in Orata, Kitengela, Kajiado County, has left a family and community in mourning after a 24-year-old woman fatally stabbed her 38-year-old husband following a heated argument.
The couple, who had attended a church service together earlier in the day, reportedly got into a quarrel on the evening of Sunday, September 14. The disagreement escalated into violence, with the woman allegedly stabbing her husband in the thigh. Neighbours rushed the injured man to Kitengela Sub-County Hospital, but he succumbed to the injury while receiving treatment.
The deceased, a tout by profession, had been married to the suspect, a shoe vendor, for two years. Their union, however, was said to have been plagued by frequent and violent disputes. Family members revealed that the woman had previously stabbed her husband in the chest in an earlier altercation and even attempted to stab him while at her in-laws’ home. Despite efforts by relatives to reconcile or separate the couple due to the recurring violence, their pleas went unheeded.
The victim’s father recounted how the suspect called him shortly after the stabbing, sounding tense and distressed. She reportedly pleaded for help, admitting she had stabbed her husband during the dispute. The father urged her to seek immediate assistance from neighbours, but sadly, the man’s injuries proved fatal.
The death has sparked calls for peaceful conflict resolution among couples, with authorities reminding the public that taking the law into their own hands during disputes can only end in tragedy. Police officers at the scene emphasized that life is sacred and that violence should never be a solution to domestic disagreements.
The suspect is currently being held at Kitengela Police Station and is expected to be arraigned in Kajiado law courts on Tuesday, September 16, 2025. Meanwhile, the victim’s body lies at the Kitengela Sub-County Hospital mortuary as the family begins burial preparations.
The grieving father has appealed for support from well-wishers to help with funeral arrangements, noting that the family lacks the financial capacity to meet the expenses. He further urged authorities to ensure justice is served, stressing that his son’s death was avoidable if the violent disputes had been addressed earlier.
This incident adds to the growing concerns over domestic violence cases in Kenya, highlighting the urgent need for awareness, intervention, and community support to prevent similar tragedies.
