Nairobi police have shot dead a suspected robber following a failed attack in the Korogocho slums. Officers recovered a home-made pistol, a dagger, and a stolen mobile phone from the deceased.
The incident unfolded after a group of suspects reportedly attacked a woman and stole her mobile phone. The victim raised an alarm, attracting the attention of police officers patrolling the area. Responding swiftly, officers confronted the suspects, resulting in a brief exchange during which one suspect was fatally shot, while his accomplices fled on foot.
The confrontation took place on Friday night in the Kisumu Ndogo section of Korogocho. Police confirmed that another man was injured during the incident and was treated at a nearby hospital before being discharged. Additionally, one suspect was arrested in connection with the attempted robbery. The body of the deceased has been moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy as investigations continue.
Authorities have vowed to intensify patrols across Nairobi to curb the rise in criminal activity, particularly ahead of the festive season.
In a separate incident in Transmara, Narok County, police are investigating a robbery in which a gold dealer was shot and seriously wounded. The attack occurred at the Game Trading Centre, where armed men demanded the victim surrender gold and cash. During a brief struggle, the robbers opened fire, grazing the dealer’s forehead. Police recovered three spent 7.62×39 mm cartridges at the scene. The victim is stable and receiving treatment, while authorities have launched a manhunt for the attackers.
Meanwhile, detectives in Bondo, Siaya County, are probing the death of 73-year-old Dennis Ambrose Achieng, who was killed in a mob attack linked to a business dispute at Gul Min Augo beach. Achieng had hired six bouncers, who were later rescued by police after the mob erected road barricades to block access. The deceased’s body has been taken to the mortuary as investigations continue.
The recent incidents highlight growing security concerns in Nairobi and neighboring counties, prompting authorities to strengthen measures to protect residents and traders.
