The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has raised the red flag over the mysterious disappearance of blogger and advocate Ndiangui Kinyagia, who went missing on Saturday under circumstances described as an “enforced disappearance.”
According to LSK President Faith Odhiambo, between six and ten Subaru vehicles arrived outside Kinyagia’s Kinoo residence on Saturday afternoon. Eyewitnesses, including neighbours, reported that the blogger’s home was forcibly broken into and electronic devices, laptops, and passports were taken. Kinyagia’s last known communication was with his mother around 1:00 p.m. that day.
His family promptly filed a report at Kinoo Police Station, detailing the incident and submitting an inventory of the seized items. However, his whereabouts remain unknown, with no official communication from the authorities on the progress of investigations.
“This bears all the hallmarks of an enforced disappearance or unlawful detention,” Odhiambo stated on X after meeting Kinyagia’s family. “This is a grave violation of constitutional rights, and we demand immediate and transparent action to locate him and ensure his safe return.”
The incident has sparked public concern, particularly in the wake of a rising number of enforced disappearances across Kenya. A recent report by Missing Voices, released on May 7, 2025, recorded 55 such cases in 2024—representing a staggering 450 percent increase from the previous year. The spike was most notable in June, during anti-Finance Bill protests, with 15 reported cases.
Odhiambo warned that the continued silence and inaction by authorities not only endanger individual freedoms but also threaten the very foundation of the rule of law in Kenya.
“This is not an isolated incident but part of a disturbing trend. We call on law enforcement and all relevant government agencies to uphold their constitutional mandate to protect all Kenyans,” she said.
LSK has vowed to pursue justice for Kinyagia and called on members of the public to come forward with any information that might aid in locating him. “We will not relent until Advocate Kinyagia is safely accounted for and those responsible are held to full account,” Odhiambo pledged.
