In a tragic incident in Kitumbutu area, Machakos County, a man was lynched by a mob after he allegedly killed his former girlfriend in a suspected love triangle. The victim, 22-year-old Susan Nyaboke, was an employee of Inspire Credit in Machakos. On Monday afternoon, Nyaboke, along with a colleague, was in the area for a business meeting with a client to negotiate a loan agreement.
As they were leaving the area, the assailant, identified as a man from Nyaboke’s past, suddenly emerged and attacked her, slashing her with a sharp object. The violent attack left Nyaboke with deep cuts on her neck and jaw, and she collapsed in a pool of blood. Her colleague screamed for help, prompting nearby residents to rush to the scene.
A mob quickly formed and began pursuing the attacker. They caught up with him shortly after the incident and, before police could intervene, stoned him to death. The police later arrived and moved both bodies to the mortuary, where autopsies will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, particularly into the nature of the relationship between the suspect and the victim. It is unclear whether the attack was premeditated or if the meeting that led to the incident had been set up with malicious intent.
This case highlights the growing issue of mob justice in Kenya, where suspects are often targeted by vigilante groups before law enforcement can act. It also raises concerns about the potential dangers of unresolved emotional conflicts leading to tragic outcomes.
In a separate incident, police in Ntimaru, Migori County, are investigating the murder of a 54-year-old man who was stabbed to death in a road attack. The victim, Daniele Mwita, was reportedly accosted by three men armed with knives and other crude weapons. After being stabbed in the stomach, Mwita was rushed to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. Police suspect that cattle rustling may be connected to the rise in murder cases in the region.
Further investigations into these incidents are ongoing as authorities work to bring those responsible to justice.
