Authorities in Kisii County have arrested a suspect after recovering a large consignment of bhang during a targeted operation in Nyankongo Village. The arrest followed an intelligence-led raid by law enforcement officers who had been monitoring drug trafficking activities in the area.
During the operation, officers conducted a search at the suspect’s residence where they discovered two large bags containing 160 brooms of cannabis sativa. Another bag with loose dry leaves of the same substance was also seized. The suspect, believed to be the owner of the premises, was immediately taken into custody and is expected to be arraigned in court.
The recovery marks one of the biggest drug hauls in the region in recent months and signals a wider crackdown on narcotics within the county. Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to intensifying the war on drugs and appealed to the public to continue sharing information that can assist in dismantling trafficking networks.
Recent Drug Seizures Across Counties
The Kisii incident is the latest in a series of operations conducted across the country targeting illegal drug trade.
In Kiambu County, officers recently apprehended a 29-year-old man during a weekend operation in the Gacharage area of Kiambaa Sub-County. A search led to the recovery of 60 rolls of cannabis, which were confiscated as exhibits. The suspect remains in custody pending formal charges in court.
Elsewhere in Kakamega County, a major seizure took place when police intercepted a motorcycle transporting 25 kilograms of bhang in Matungu. The rider, upon reaching a checkpoint, defied orders to stop and attempted to speed away, running over a spike barrier in the process. The motorcycle’s tyre was punctured, forcing him to abandon both the bike and the consignment before fleeing on foot. Police secured the exhibits and launched a manhunt for the fugitive.
Intensified Crackdown
Authorities have vowed to sustain operations aimed at disrupting the supply and distribution of narcotics. They emphasized that drug trafficking remains a threat to public health and security, particularly among young people. Members of the public were urged to play an active role in reporting suspicious activities within their neighborhoods to curb the vice.
With growing concerns over the rising use of narcotics in different regions, the latest operations highlight the government’s determination to eliminate drug networks and ensure communities remain safe from the harmful effects of drug abuse.
