Police in Kiambu County have arrested a 29-year-old man after he was found in possession of 60 rolls of bhang during a weekend crackdown targeting drug peddlers.
The arrest took place in the Gacharage area of Kiambaa Sub-County on the evening of Saturday, August 30, 2025. Officers on patrol intercepted the suspect during an operation aimed at curbing the sale and distribution of narcotics within the region. The bhang was recovered at the scene and preserved as evidence.
Authorities confirmed that the suspect is currently in custody and will be arraigned in court once investigations are complete. They emphasized that the operation was part of broader efforts to combat drug trafficking and protect communities from the harmful effects of illegal substances.
Growing Crackdown on Drugs
The arrest in Kiambu adds to a series of recent operations across the country targeting the supply and transportation of cannabis sativa. Just days earlier, police officers in Kakamega intercepted a motorcycle ferrying 25 kilograms of bhang in Matungu.
During that incident, the rider ignored orders to stop at a police roadblock and attempted to evade capture by driving over a spike barrier. The maneuver punctured his front tyre, forcing him to abandon both the motorcycle and the illicit cargo before fleeing on foot. The motorcycle and the cannabis haul were secured by police as exhibits, and a manhunt was launched to trace the fugitive.
These crackdowns highlight ongoing efforts by law enforcement to dismantle networks involved in the distribution of illegal drugs. Security agencies have pledged to sustain high-level operations in hotspots where drug abuse and trafficking have been on the rise.
Rising Concerns Over Drug Abuse
The widespread availability of narcotics such as bhang has raised concerns among community leaders and security officials, who warn of the devastating impact on young people. Drug-related crimes, addiction, and health complications continue to strain families and public institutions, making the fight against illegal substances a national priority.
With the latest arrest in Kiambu and continued operations in Kakamega, authorities are sending a strong message to traffickers and peddlers that the sale of narcotics will not be tolerated.
