A 50-year-old man has been charged with murder following the discovery of human remains at a popular Loch Lomond beauty spot. The suspect, identified as David McColl from Glasgow, appeared before the city’s sheriff court in connection with the death of Graham Wright, 38, whose remains were found near Rubha Dubh, at Firkin Point, on September 13.
Wright was last seen in Glasgow on August 20 and was reported missing five days later. His disappearance triggered an extensive search, culminating in the grim discovery by a member of the public almost a month later. Police launched a full-scale investigation into his death, focusing on several locations across the Glasgow area, including the Gorbals, Castlemilk, and Rutherglen in South Lanarkshire.
McColl has been accused of murder, attempting to defeat the ends of justice, and two counts of breaching bail conditions. He made no plea during his court appearance and was remanded in custody for further examination. He is expected to return to court within the next eight days as investigations continue.
In a related development, another man, 53-year-old John Roarty, was also arrested and charged in connection with the same case. Roarty appeared before the Glasgow Sheriff Court last Thursday, where he faced a single charge of attempting to defeat the ends of justice. Like McColl, he made no plea and was remanded in custody pending his next court appearance later this week.
Police Scotland confirmed that extensive inquiries are still ongoing as part of the major investigation into Wright’s death. Officers have been gathering evidence and conducting interviews across multiple locations to piece together the events leading to the tragic discovery.
The case has drawn public attention due to the disturbing nature of the crime and the scenic location where the remains were found. Firkin Point, located along the western banks of Loch Lomond, is a popular destination for both locals and tourists, known for its walking trails and stunning views of the loch.
As detectives continue to pursue new leads, both suspects remain in custody. The court proceedings are set to continue over the coming days as authorities seek to determine the full circumstances surrounding the death of Graham Wright and the alleged efforts to conceal the crime.
