A man has been detained after he took his wife, who had suffered fatal stab wounds, to a hospital in the Kasarani area of Nairobi. The incident occurred on the night of Sunday, June 29, when the man arrived at St. John’s Hospital in Githurai seeking medical attention for his wife, Ruth Wangare. She was, however, pronounced dead on arrival.
Medical personnel at the facility alerted police after discovering that the woman had a deep stab wound on the upper left side of her stomach. Police officers responded to the scene and subsequently accompanied the man to his residence. During the search, officers recovered a kitchen knife with a pink handle, which they suspect may have been the weapon used in the fatal stabbing.
The man was taken into custody pending further investigation. Authorities have indicated that he has yet to provide a clear account of what led to the death of his wife. The body has been transferred to the mortuary for preservation and a post-mortem examination.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident in Narok County, another man died under similar circumstances following a domestic altercation. Timothy Karori Wanjahi, aged 30, was reportedly involved in a fight with his former girlfriend at her home in the Ololulunga area. According to police, the man had gone to the woman’s house, where a dispute escalated into physical violence.
Neighbours said they heard loud quarrelling and signs of a struggle between the two. During the fight, Wanjahi sustained stab wounds to his back and hands. The woman later attempted to assist him by taking him to Ololulunga Sub-county Hospital, but he was declared dead on arrival. A medical examination revealed stab injuries to the back of his head and left arm.
Police arrested the woman, who remains in custody as investigations continue. She claimed the deceased had arrived at her house already injured and bleeding, a statement that authorities are probing to determine its accuracy.
Both incidents highlight a disturbing trend of violent domestic disputes resulting in loss of life. Law enforcement agencies have noted a worrying increase in murder cases related to domestic conflicts. Reports suggest that as many as eight murder cases are being recorded daily across the country, many of which remain unresolved.
The rise in such fatal domestic incidents has triggered renewed appeals for couples and individuals to seek peaceful and constructive ways to resolve conflicts. Authorities are calling for increased awareness, intervention mechanisms, and support systems to prevent disputes from escalating into violence.
