Police in Kisumu County have launched investigations into a gruesome murder after a 41-year-old man was found beheaded in Muhoroni on Tuesday morning, sending shockwaves through the local community.
The horrifying discovery was made around 6:40 a.m. when a local boda boda rider spotted a human head placed inside a paper bag and dumped in the middle of the road at Kona Mbaya along the Achego–Muhoroni road. Alarmed by the sight, the rider quickly alerted police officers from the Achego Patrol Base, who arrived at the scene and cordoned off the area to prevent contamination as curious residents gathered nearby.
As officers began processing the scene, another report emerged indicating that a headless body had been found just a few meters from the victim’s rented house in Keiyo Village, Songor Sub-location, within Tamu Location. Upon arrival, police confirmed that the remains matched those of the man whose head had been found earlier.
The victim was later identified as Patrick Okello Amemo, a 41-year-old tractor driver originally from Mawego Village in Homa Bay County. Neighbours described him as a quiet and hardworking man who had lived in the area for several years without any known disputes.
According to a police statement, the body had both the head and genitals severed, suggesting the attack was deliberate and brutal. Investigators believe the killing occurred during the night and that the body was dumped shortly before dawn.
Muhoroni Sub-county police officers have described the incident as disturbing and barbaric, promising a thorough investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice. Detectives are said to be pursuing crucial leads that may help uncover the motive behind the killing and identify those responsible.
The remains of the deceased were later moved to the Odhoo Morgue for preservation pending a post-mortem examination.
Residents of Keiyo Village have expressed fear following the incident, citing an increase in insecurity in recent weeks, including cases of theft and nighttime violence. They have appealed to authorities to increase patrols and improve lighting in the area to deter further criminal activity.
As investigations continue, the community remains on edge, hoping for swift justice for the slain man and reassurance of their safety amid growing security concerns in the region.
