A Nakuru man has been found guilty of murder after a dramatic confrontation in what is believed to have been a love triangle gone wrong.
The court determined that Cyrus Kipng’eno Rono fatally attacked his neighbor, Moody Awori, after discovering him half-dressed and hiding under his bed. The ruling brings to a close a nearly two-year-long legal battle.
According to court findings, the incident occurred on the night of August 29, 2023. Rono, who was on duty as a night guard in Kiamunyeki, became suspicious after repeated attempts to call his wife went unanswered. He excused himself from work and rushed home at around 9 p.m.
Upon arrival, he found his bedroom door locked. After persistent knocking, his wife finally emerged looking nervous and uneasy, which further aroused his suspicions. Determined to investigate, Rono entered the room and was stunned to find Awori hiding under the bed.
What followed was a violent confrontation. Armed with a machete, Rono attacked Awori repeatedly, inflicting deep stab wounds to his neck and limbs. The brutality of the assault was highlighted during trial proceedings, with the court noting the severity of the injuries as a clear indicator of the force used.
After the attack, Rono proceeded to Lanet Police Station, where he reported the incident. He later escorted officers to the crime scene, where Awori’s lifeless body was discovered.
A postmortem conducted by a government pathologist confirmed that the cause of death was severe head injuries inflicted by both blunt and sharp force trauma.
In delivering the verdict, the court emphasized that the evidence presented by the prosecution proved beyond reasonable doubt that Rono was responsible for Awori’s death. The ruling declared him guilty of murder contrary to Section 203 as read with Section 204 of the Penal Code.
The shocking case drew widespread attention due to its unusual circumstances, highlighting the dangers of domestic disputes escalating into fatal violence. With the guilty verdict delivered, Rono now awaits sentencing, which is expected to determine the length of his prison term.
This case underscores the devastating consequences of unchecked rage and the tragic outcomes that can arise when jealousy and mistrust take center stage in relationships.
