A domestic dispute over land in Ringa, Homa Bay County, turned tragic after a 30-year-old man lost his life in a confrontation with his brother.
The deceased, identified as Lawrence Obonyo, was found dead in the sitting room of their family house following the Friday morning altercation. Witnesses reported that the fight was fueled by a long-standing land dispute between the two brothers. The suspect fled the scene after an angry mob attempted to confront him. Police have since launched a manhunt to apprehend him. The body of the deceased was transferred to the mortuary for post-mortem examination as investigations continue.
The incident has reignited concerns about the growing number of violent domestic disputes linked to land ownership and inheritance in rural Kenya. Cases of siblings and close relatives clashing over property have been on the rise, with authorities urging families to resolve disputes through dialogue or legal channels rather than resorting to violence.
Elsewhere in Homa Bay County, police are investigating the murder of a 32-year-old woman whose body was discovered naked on a footpath in Ndiru, Ndhiwa. The woman, identified as Judith Moraa, had bruises on her thighs, buttocks, and hands, suggesting a violent attack. Her body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy to establish the cause of death.
In a separate incident in Nandi County, 38-year-old Robert Ouko Obonyo was ambushed and killed by unknown assailants while heading home from work in Kapko village. He sustained severe injuries and collapsed by the roadside where his body was later discovered. The motive behind the attack remains unclear, and no arrests have been made so far.
Meanwhile, in Bungoma County, tragedy struck in Wamuini “B” village, Kimilili, when a 16-year-old girl accidentally slipped and fell into a 65-foot-deep borehole. Despite efforts to save her, she died before rescue. Her body was retrieved and taken to the mortuary. A man who was with her at the time of the incident has been arrested for questioning as police investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
These incidents highlight the rising concerns over community safety, domestic disputes, and unresolved conflicts that too often end in fatalities. Authorities have urged the public to seek peaceful solutions and remain vigilant as investigations continue across the affected counties.
