A 30-year-old man has been arrested for killing his father following a heated argument over napier grass in Eregi village, Kakamega County. The tragic incident occurred in Kaluni village, where the suspect allegedly attacked his 68-year-old father, Christopher Lubutze Shikokoti, after being questioned for cutting grass without permission.
According to initial reports, the deceased had confronted his son over cutting napier grass on his land without seeking consent. The exchange quickly escalated into a violent confrontation. In a fit of rage, the son allegedly picked up a hammer and struck his father several times. He also used a rungu during the assault, inflicting severe injuries on the elderly man.
Neighbours rushed to the scene and found the victim lying unconscious and bleeding. He was taken to a nearby hospital, but despite efforts to save his life, he succumbed to the injuries. Police officers responding to the incident recovered a hammer, a rungu, a green pipe, and a blood-stained vest believed to have been used in the attack.
The suspect was later arrested and taken into custody for questioning as investigations continue. The body of the deceased was moved to the mortuary for an autopsy as detectives work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the killing.
In a separate incident in Bomet County, a 26-year-old man was found dead after being attacked by his girlfriend during a domestic quarrel in Tegat area. The victim, identified as Emmanuel Kiprono, had deep cuts at the back of his head and was pronounced dead upon arrival at a local hospital. Police said the girlfriend fled the scene after the assault, and efforts to trace her are ongoing.
Meanwhile, in Siaya County, a 17-year-old boy was discovered dead in a bush in Nyandorera area after a suspected murder. His body bore deep cuts on the hands and legs, along with marks of strangulation. Preliminary investigations indicate that the teenager had left home after being called by a neighbour and never returned. Police later rescued a 40-year-old man accused of the killing and are pursuing leads to determine the motive.
Authorities have expressed concern over the rising number of domestic and community-related murders in the region and have urged residents to resolve disputes amicably rather than resorting to violence.
