A tragic domestic altercation in Gatukuyu village, Gatundu, Kiambu County, ended in the death of a man identified as John Njuguna Ngugi. The victim succumbed to injuries sustained after being attacked by his son during a violent confrontation on October 20, 2025.
According to police reports, the disagreement between the two escalated quickly, leading the son to assault his father with a piece of wood. Neighbours rushed Njuguna to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The assailant was later apprehended by members of the public and handed over to law enforcement officers. Authorities recovered the weapon believed to have been used in the fatal attack.
Investigations are underway, and police have noted that similar murder incidents have been rising in the region, often linked to domestic quarrels and land disputes. Several of these cases are already before the courts, while others remain under active investigation.
In a separate incident in Machakos County, a 44-year-old man identified as Samuel Mutinda died following an altercation outside a bar in the Kyumbi area. Witnesses reported that Mutinda was involved in a confrontation with two men before being fatally attacked. A night guard at the bar saw the assault unfold before Mutinda collapsed and died at the scene. The attackers fled, and police have launched a manhunt for the suspects.
Meanwhile, in Banisa, Mandera County, a herder named Mumad Mohamed Hussein Haji, 28, was shot dead while tending to his father’s livestock. He was attacked at close range, sustaining gunshot wounds to the chest and arm. Investigators suspect the shooting was motivated by revenge linked to ongoing conflicts over grazing land and other scarce resources in the region. No arrests have been made so far.
In another incident in the Santon area of Kasarani, Nairobi, a boda boda rider identified as Frankline Gatukuyi Waweru, 34, was found murdered. Police said the victim was attacked by men who had posed as passengers. He sustained deep stab wounds to the chest and shoulders before his attackers fled with his motorcycle.
Authorities have raised concerns over the increasing number of violent crimes targeting boda boda riders and are urging operators to remain vigilant and report suspicious passengers. Investigations into all the incidents are ongoing.
