A family herder in Laikipia has been sentenced to life imprisonment for defiling an 8-year-old girl in a shocking case that has highlighted the vulnerability of children to sexual violence. The accused committed the heinous act on August 26, 2024, at Chumvi Centre in Laikipia North Sub-County, taking advantage of his proximity to the victim’s family.
During the trial at the Nanyuki Law Courts, Hon. Lisper Gakii delivered a firm judgment, condemning the accused for the psychological trauma inflicted on the young girl. The prosecution presented five witnesses, including the victim and her mother, whose testimonies provided irrefutable evidence linking the herder to the crime.
The court heard how the accused preyed on the girl during the August 2024 school holidays. According to the victim’s testimony, she was in the kitchen when the herder returned home, took her to his bed, and assaulted her while covering her mouth to silence her screams. The traumatized child later informed her mother after noticing blood while urinating, prompting immediate medical attention.
The victim’s mother recounted that the accused had deliberately sent her elder son away to herd goats, leaving the young girl defenseless. This calculated move demonstrated the perpetrator’s intent, further strengthening the case against him.
In her ruling, Hon. Gakii emphasized that the girl’s dignity had been grossly violated and that such crimes demand the harshest penalties. The life sentence sends a strong message that sexual violence against minors will not be tolerated.
