The incident, which occurred in the Tobruk Road area of Huyton, has sparked a full-scale investigation, with the road currently cordoned off as officers work to establish the full details of what happened.
Emergency services were called to the scene around 4:25 pm following reports that a man and a woman had been stabbed. Upon arrival, police encountered the suspected attacker and discharged their firearms. The suspect was injured in the shooting and subsequently taken to the hospital for treatment. His current condition has not been disclosed publicly.
The two stabbing victims were also transported to the hospital. Their injuries have been described as serious but stable, and they are currently receiving medical attention.
The area remains sealed off, with a visible police presence as forensic teams and investigators continue their work. Officers are conducting house-to-house inquiries and reviewing CCTV footage in the hopes of piecing together the series of events that led to the violent altercation.
In accordance with standard procedure following a police shooting, the incident has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC). An independent investigation is now underway to assess the actions taken by the officers involved. This referral is a routine measure intended to ensure transparency and public confidence in law enforcement procedures.
A senior police officer expressed concern for the community and acknowledged the shock the incident may have caused among residents. He emphasized that police are still in the early stages of their investigation and are working to determine the full circumstances surrounding the stabbing and subsequent shooting.
The officer reassured the public of the force’s commitment to community safety, highlighting that any incident involving weapons is treated with the utmost seriousness. According to the police, this appears to have been an isolated incident, and they are not seeking any additional suspects at this time.
All three individuals involved the suspect and the two victims are currently undergoing medical assessment. While the full details of the confrontation have yet to be revealed, police have confirmed that the victims and the suspect were all taken to hospital shortly after the incident.
As investigations continue, local residents have been urged to come forward with any information they might have that could assist in understanding what led up to the violence. Police are especially keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who has relevant video footage, including doorbell or dashcam recordings, from the time of the attack.
The ongoing police presence in the area is expected to remain for some time as inquiries progress. Authorities are working closely with community leaders to ensure that residents feel supported and safe in the aftermath of the event.
The IOPC has indicated that it will release further updates on its investigation in due course. Meanwhile, local law enforcement continues to cooperate fully with the independent watchdog and has pledged transparency throughout the process.
