A domestic dispute in Nyatike, Migori County, turned fatal after a 39-year-old man was stabbed to death by his stepson. The incident occurred in Obolo A village on Saturday, August 23, and has left the community in shock.
Reports indicate that the man, identified as Bernard Odinga, had been quarreling with his 25-year-old stepson for some time. The long-standing tension stemmed from Odinga’s marriage to the suspect’s mother as a second wife, a move that had created friction in the family. On the fateful day, the disagreement escalated into violence when the stepson stabbed Odinga in the chest before fleeing the scene.
Odinga collapsed by the roadside near his home as locals rushed him to hospital, but he was pronounced dead on arrival. His body was later moved to the mortuary for an autopsy as police launched a manhunt for the suspect.
The tragedy unfolded as the victim’s wife, who is also the suspect’s mother, was at home and reportedly witnessed the quarrel from within the compound. Authorities say the search for the assailant is ongoing.
In a separate incident in Ragumo area, Kisumu County, a bodaboda rider was brutally killed in what appears to have been a robbery. The victim, 47-year-old Dancun Oyare, had ferried two passengers from Mowlem to Chiga when they attacked him with an axe hidden in their coats. The blow to the head killed him instantly, and the attackers stole his motorcycle before escaping. However, an alarm raised by locals led to a pursuit, forcing the assailants to abandon the stolen motorbike at a nearby homestead. Police are investigating the case as the search for the killers continues.
Another case was reported in Bungasi, Kakamega County, where a 34-year-old man, Wilson Owino, was found dead in a farm. His body bore multiple bruises on the head, face, and chest, pointing to a violent assault. Witnesses said Owino had been involved in a fight with two men who fatally injured him. Police have confirmed that investigations are ongoing to bring the attackers to justice.
Authorities say such incidents highlight the growing concern over violent crime in the country. Recent reports indicate that up to eight murder cases are being recorded daily, raising alarm about safety in homes, villages, and public spaces.
