A man wanted in connection with a recent murder in Narok County has been found dead in what authorities suspect to be a case of suicide. The man, identified as Wesley Kones, had been on the run following the brutal killing of Naomi Kones, a 22-year-old woman, on June 2 in the Mulot area.
Police believe that Kones took his own life by drowning in River Amalo in Simotwet village, located in the Kiplabotwa location of Bomet East sub-county, Bomet County. According to initial investigations, he is thought to have jumped into the river while fleeing from law enforcement officers who had intensified the search for him after he was linked to the woman’s murder.
His body was discovered in the river bearing visible injuries to the face and hands. Police suspect these injuries were sustained as he was dragged along the rocky riverbed. The condition of the body and the surrounding circumstances have led authorities to strongly consider suicide as the cause of death, though further investigations are ongoing.
The body was retrieved and taken to a local mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination to confirm the exact cause of death. Authorities are continuing their investigations to gather more evidence related to both the initial murder case and the suspected suicide.
The murder of Naomi Kones shocked the local community and drew significant attention, prompting swift action by local law enforcement. With Wesley Kones as the prime suspect, pressure had mounted to bring him to justice. His sudden death has now shifted the focus to closing the case while ensuring all facts are properly established through forensic examination and witness accounts.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident in Nyandarua County, a 76-year-old man was found dead under suspicious circumstances in Pasenga village. The deceased, identified as Stephen Wangechi Gachini, was discovered lying in a prone position inside a cowshed on his property. The cow he was supposed to milk was still in the yoke, with both hind legs tied with a rope, indicating that the morning routine had been interrupted.
Upon arrival at the scene, police observed that blood was oozing from the man’s mouth, raising immediate concerns of foul play. The cause of death has not been confirmed, and detectives have opened a murder investigation to determine what transpired.
His body was also moved to a nearby mortuary, where an autopsy will be conducted to establish the exact circumstances surrounding his death. The incident has left residents of Pasenga shocked and concerned, especially considering the age of the victim and the apparent lack of struggle or theft at the scene.
The two cases have prompted heightened vigilance in their respective areas, with local leaders urging residents to cooperate with investigators and provide any information that may assist in resolving the matters. Authorities have also emphasized the importance of community policing and reporting suspicious behavior, especially as some incidents appear to involve individuals who may be familiar to the victims.
Investigations into both deaths are ongoing, with law enforcement agencies assuring the public that every effort is being made to uncover the truth and bring any responsible parties to justice.
