Mandera County police have intercepted a significant cache of illegal drugs, recovering at least 700 rolls of cannabis sativa and three kilograms of unprocessed cannabis during a recent crackdown. The operation, carried out on Monday, November 10, 2025, targeted a crime scene in the Shantoley area of Mandera North Sub-County.
According to a statement released by the National Police Service (NPS) on X, the officers also recovered an unregistered motorcycle, whose owner fled the scene. The seized items have been secured as evidence, and police are actively searching for the main suspect, who remains at large.
“Today, 10th November 2025, officers from the National Police Service based in Mandera North Sub-County recovered 700 rolls of cannabis sativa, three kilograms of unprocessed cannabis, and an unregistered motorcycle, among other items, while investigating a crime scene in the Shantoley area,” the NPS noted.
The police reaffirmed their commitment to protecting the public and urged residents to continue reporting suspicious activities. “The National Police Service reiterates its steadfast commitment to protecting and serving the public. We appeal for the public’s continued support by reporting any suspicious activities to their nearest police station,” the NPS added.
This crackdown in Mandera follows a similar operation in Migori County, where Awendo Police Station officers arrested three people linked to illicit brews in Bongu and Ulunda areas of Awendo Township. During the operation conducted on Sunday, November 9, 2025, police recovered 15 liters of Chang’aa and destroyed about 400 liters of Kangara. The suspects two women and one man—remain in custody pending arraignment in court.
These recent operations underscore Kenya’s intensified efforts to combat illegal drugs and illicit brews. Law enforcement continues to encourage community participation in reporting crime to ensure the safety and well-being of all citizens.
