Detectives have launched investigations into a chilling murder after the discovery of a man’s body stuffed in a sack and dumped in the waters of Tana River in Machakos County.
According to police reports, the body was spotted floating in the Tumutumu area of Masinga on Monday. When officers arrived at the scene, they confirmed the remains belonged to a man estimated to be around 43 years old. The body had been tied up inside a sack, suggesting it had been disposed of in an attempt to conceal the crime.
Investigators believe the victim was killed elsewhere before being dumped in the river. Initial examinations showed no visible injuries, and the body has since been taken to the mortuary for identification and a post-mortem to establish the exact cause of death. No arrests have been made so far.
In a separate incident in Embu County, police are also probing a shocking murder in which a man was fatally attacked with an arrow. The attack occurred on September 16 along the Kanyuambora-Kamumu road in Ishiara, Mbeere.
The victim, identified as Simon Njiru, was hawking assorted goods when he was confronted by an assailant. The attacker shot him in the chest with an arrow before attempting, unsuccessfully, to remove it. Njiru succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The suspect fled immediately after the attack and is currently on the run.
Authorities have launched a manhunt for the suspect, urging residents to remain calm as security operations continue. Locals, however, expressed fear and frustration, demanding swift justice and increased police presence in the area to prevent further attacks.
These two incidents highlight a worrying rise in violent crime across the country. Statistics indicate that as many as eight murder cases are reported daily, stretching police resources and leaving many families in search of justice. Homicide squads are working to unravel both fresh and pending cases, some of which remain unsolved while others drag through the courts.
As investigations continue in both Machakos and Embu, police have assured the public that all efforts are being made to bring perpetrators to book and restore a sense of security in affected communities.
