Bryan Mbeumo has expressed his excitement about teaming up with Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes as he embarks on a new chapter in his career. The Cameroon international recently completed a high-profile move to Old Trafford from Brentford in a deal worth £65 million, with a further £6 million in potential add-ons. His signing marks United’s third major acquisition of the summer as new manager Ruben Amorim looks to revamp the club’s underperforming attack.
The 25-year-old winger, who enjoyed a standout campaign last season with 20 goals and seven assists for Brentford in the Premier League, has signed a five-year contract with the Red Devils. Speaking ahead of United’s pre-season tour of the United States, Mbeumo revealed that Fernandes is the player he is most excited to link up with at his new club.
“Everyone sees in the past years, he can shoot, he can cross, he can do crazy ball,” Mbeumo said of Fernandes. “Yeah, for a striker, you just enjoy that.”
He believes that Fernandes’ vision and creativity will be a perfect fit for his style of play, and is confident that their on-field chemistry will develop quickly. “On the pitch, when you’re smart like he is, I think you don’t even need to think a lot. You just need to make the run and he’s going to play you in the right space every time.”
Mbeumo acknowledged that while some tactical discussions will be necessary to understand each other’s preferences, adapting to Fernandes’ playmaking instincts will be key. “At a certain point, there is only one way, even if it’s not the one you like, you have to do the run and he’s going to put the ball in a good position.”
The winger’s arrival follows the additions of Matheus Cunha from Wolves and Paraguayan left-back Diego Leon from Cerro Porteño. United remain active in the transfer market, having also been linked with RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko and Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins.
Mbeumo praised Watkins, his former teammate at Brentford, calling him a “complete striker” who can “do a lot of things.” As United continue to build a stronger frontline, fans will be eager to see how Mbeumo fits into Amorim’s new-look attack.
