Police officers in Molo, Nakuru County, have arrested a notorious criminal found in possession of a suspected stolen motorcycle and several stolen gas cylinders. The dramatic arrest took place on the evening of Monday, August 18, during a routine patrol in the Keep Left area.
According to police reports, officers on patrol noticed two suspicious unregistered motorcycles ferrying large green sacks. Each motorcycle was heavily loaded, raising the officers’ suspicions. When ordered to stop, the riders attempted to escape, triggering a brief chase. One suspect was intercepted and arrested, while the other managed to abandon his motorcycle and flee towards the Mutirithia area.
Upon searching the recovered sacks, police discovered nine assorted 6kg gas cylinders believed to have been stolen. Further inspection revealed that the motorcycles had their frame numbers tampered with and erased, an indication they were stolen or meant to conceal ownership. Authorities confirmed that the arrested suspect is a well-known criminal in the region with a long history of previous convictions and acquittals at the Molo Law Courts.
The suspect was immediately taken into custody at Molo Police Station, where he remains detained pending arraignment. Police have launched a manhunt for the second suspect who escaped during the operation. Investigators are also working to establish the rightful owners of the stolen gas cylinders and motorcycles.
In a separate incident, police officers stationed at Itugururu Police Post in Tharaka Nithi also recorded success in their crime-busting operations. Acting on intelligence provided by members of the public, officers moved swiftly to intercept a notorious drug peddler operating near the Itugururu Matatu Stage.
When approached, the suspect attempted to flee towards nearby buildings but was quickly pursued and arrested. A search revealed that he was carrying 33 rolls of cannabis. The narcotics were confiscated and secured at the police facility, while the suspect was detained pending processing and arraignment in court.
The two operations highlight the National Police Service’s ongoing efforts to curb rising cases of theft, narcotics trade, and other criminal activities across the country. Police have urged the public to continue sharing intelligence to help dismantle criminal networks and enhance community safety.
