Anti-Narcotics detectives have apprehended a notorious drug peddler in Mombasa and seized heroin valued at Ksh1.8 million. The arrest took place during a focused crackdown on drug trafficking in the coastal city, aiming to curb the growing menace of narcotics distribution in the region.
According to reports from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the suspect, identified as Bakari Ali, was arrested following solid intelligence gathered by the Anti-Narcotics Unit. Detectives conducted a surprise raid on his residence in Kikambala, catching him off guard. The search yielded significant evidence, including a blue carrier bag hidden under a mattress that contained six tightly wrapped packages of heroin weighing a total of 600 grams.
Bakari Ali was immediately taken into custody and transported to the Port Police Station, where he is currently being processed ahead of his arraignment in court. This operation is part of a broader effort by law enforcement to dismantle drug trafficking networks operating along the Kenyan coast.
This arrest follows a similar recent operation in Mombasa where another notorious drug trafficker, Shee Hussein, was apprehended at Magaoni area in Msambweni. In that incident, detectives acting on precise intelligence intercepted Hussein while he was aboard a public service vehicle. A search revealed 200 grams of heroin concealed in his left trouser pocket. Under pressure, Hussein cooperated with the authorities, leading them to his home where they uncovered 19 additional packages of Cannabis sativa.
Both arrests highlight the increasing vigilance and strategic approach of the Anti-Narcotics Unit in targeting drug traffickers and their networks. These coordinated operations demonstrate the effectiveness of intelligence-led policing in combating narcotics distribution, especially in high-risk areas.
In a related operation, detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations Headquarters carried out a successful raid in Kabati, Murang’a County. Guided by targeted intelligence, they intercepted Henry Mburu Njogu, who was driving a Toyota Rumion vehicle with registration number KCP 885G. A subsequent search of his residence resulted in the discovery of 21 sacks of Cannabis sativa.
Mburu was arrested on the spot and taken to Muthaiga Police Station, where he is currently awaiting legal action. The seizure of large quantities of narcotics in different parts of the country signals a significant blow to drug trafficking syndicates and underscores the persistent efforts by the authorities to eradicate drug-related crimes.
The recent arrests and seizures form part of an ongoing nationwide campaign to address the rise of drug abuse and trafficking, which continue to pose serious threats to public health, safety, and security. Law enforcement agencies have stepped up operations, working closely with community members to gather intelligence and disrupt the flow of illegal substances.
The crackdown is particularly important as drug abuse continues to impact youths and vulnerable communities, contributing to crime, violence, and social instability. Authorities are keen on sending a strong message to those involved in narcotics trafficking that such activities will not be tolerated.
The Anti-Narcotics Unit remains committed to sustaining these efforts, coordinating with various stakeholders to ensure that drug peddlers face the full force of the law. Enhanced surveillance, timely raids, and community partnerships are all critical components of this multifaceted approach to combating the drug menace.
As investigations continue, law enforcement officers urge the public to cooperate by reporting any suspicious activities related to drug trafficking. The ongoing operations reflect the determination to restore peace and safety in affected communities and reinforce the rule of law across the country.
The arrests of Bakari Ali, Shee Hussein, and Henry Mburu Njogu represent important milestones in the fight against narcotics. Authorities are expected to pursue further investigations that may lead to the unmasking of larger drug networks operating within and beyond Kenya’s borders. The hope is that these successes will pave the way for a safer environment free from the devastating effects of drug abuse and trafficking.
