Police in Mombasa arrested an individual following a targeted operation aimed at curbing drug trafficking and the illegal sale of alcohol. The raid took place in the Maganda area, where officers from the Maganda Police Station, acting on intelligence, seized a significant amount of suspected narcotics. The operation on October 28, 2025, led to the discovery of 32 rolls and 40 sachets of a substance believed to be narcotics.
The individual, identified as a person of interest in the ongoing investigation, was taken into custody and is expected to face charges in court. Authorities are conducting further investigations to determine the source of the drugs and to assess whether the suspect is connected to a larger drug distribution network. The police have not released specific details about the individual’s identity or any potential accomplices.
This successful operation comes amid ongoing efforts by the National Police Service (NPS) to combat drug trafficking and illicit substance abuse across the country. The NPS has commended the officers involved for their diligence and commitment to tackling crime in the region. They also urged members of the public to continue providing information that may assist law enforcement in their efforts to fight drug-related issues in local communities.
The operation in Maganda is part of a wider crackdown on drug trafficking in Kenya. Earlier in the week, police in the western region also seized bales of cannabis sativa from a passenger bus on the Busia–Kisumu Road. On October 27, 2025, police officers intercepted the bus at Yala Bridge on the Kampala–Nairobi route after noticing suspicious activity. Upon searching the vehicle, officers discovered two bales of cannabis that had been tightly wrapped in yellow cellotape. Two individuals linked to the bales were arrested, and the drugs were secured as evidence for further legal proceedings.
The NPS has reiterated its resolve to intensify operations targeting illegal drugs, highlighting the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to prevent the sale and use of narcotics and illicit alcohol in Kenya. This latest seizure reinforces the importance of intelligence-led operations in reducing the prevalence of illegal substances in communities.
