A chilling incident unfolded in Bar-Olengo, Siaya County, where two young girls were found dead in their grandmother’s home. The victims, aged ten and five, had visible strangulation marks on their necks, pointing to a gruesome murder by an unknown assailant.
According to initial reports, the girls had been locked inside the house by their mother, who claimed she left for a community meeting on the night of June 24. Upon her return, she discovered the lifeless bodies. Her mother the children’s grandmother was asleep in another room during the incident. The mother was subsequently arrested for questioning as investigations continue.
Authorities have yet to establish a clear motive for the killings, and the case has sent shockwaves through the quiet village. The bodies were taken to a local mortuary where post-mortem examinations will be carried out.
This tragedy adds to a growing list of suspected murder cases reported across the country in recent days.
In Vihiga County’s Embali area, a 33-year-old bodaboda rider, identified as Jonathan Eba, was found dead by the roadside. His body bore deep cuts to the face and eyes, suggesting a violent confrontation. His motorcycle was missing, raising suspicions that robbery may have been the motive behind the murder.
Meanwhile, in Nyakianga, Murang’a County, another death occurred under equally disturbing circumstances. Joseph Mwangi, 19, was fatally attacked during a funeral ceremony. Police recovered two sticks believed to have been used in the assault, along with a shoe suspected to belong to the victim. Two individuals were arrested and are currently assisting investigators with the case.
In Laikipia County, Nanyuki town was also the scene of suspected foul play when the body of an unidentified man was discovered dumped by the roadside. Preliminary findings suggest the man was killed elsewhere before being discarded at the location.
These cases come amid rising concerns over the frequency of violent deaths across the country. Authorities report that up to eight murder cases are being logged daily, a trend that is causing alarm among both residents and security officials.
