A man who lured women with fake job offers before raping and robbing them at knifepoint has been sentenced to death following his conviction on multiple serious charges.
The convict, identified as Luka Andove, was found guilty of three counts of robbery with violence, three counts of rape, and one count of attempted rape. His sentencing follows a harrowing pattern of criminal activity that involved targeting vulnerable women under the guise of helping them secure employment.
According to court findings, Andove would gain the trust of his victims by pretending to be a well-connected individual capable of securing job opportunities. Once he had convinced the women, he would pick them up on his motorbike and offer to take them to supposed job interviews. Instead, he would divert the trip to a secluded area in Ngong Forest.
Once inside the forest, the victims were raped and robbed at knifepoint. The attacks were premeditated and showed a chilling level of consistency and violence.
Despite his repeated offences, Andove managed to evade capture for a while. However, police investigations uncovered a pattern linking the cases. Authorities then set a trap to apprehend him, catching him red-handed while attempting to assault a fourth victim in the same manner. He was found armed and in the act of committing yet another attack.
During sentencing at the Kibera Law Courts, the presiding judge emphasized the brutal and repetitive nature of the crimes. The court remarked that the offender displayed a “complete lack of humanity” and ruled that the maximum penalty under Kenyan law was appropriate.
Andove is to begin serving the death sentence immediately. The court also imposed life imprisonment for the rape charges and additional sentences for robbery and attempted rape, although these remain in abeyance as per legal procedure once a death sentence is handed down.
This case marks a significant step in the pursuit of justice for victims of sexual violence and organized predation. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to protecting citizens from such acts and urged the public to remain vigilant against fraudulent job offers and transport services.
