Authorities in Mtwapa Town, Kilifi County, have arrested four suspects in a targeted drug trafficking and street crime operation. The arrests took place in the Kipapuro and Mzambarauni areas following an intelligence-led crackdown aimed at dismantling drug networks and addressing rising insecurity.
During the raid, officers seized 55 rolls of cannabis. The suspects were taken into custody and are being held at Mtwapa Police Station pending arraignment in court. Investigations remain ongoing, with security agencies pursuing additional persons of interest linked to the network.
Officials confirmed that the evidence has been secured and emphasized that such crackdowns are part of a broader strategy to reduce drug abuse, particularly among young people. The operation was carried out in collaboration with relevant agencies tasked with combating narcotics across the country.
The success in Mtwapa was mirrored by other coordinated efforts in Migori and Kisumu counties. In Awendo, Migori County, police intercepted a suspect transporting a sack of cannabis on a motorcycle along the busy Migori–Kisii road. The suspect was detained and the narcotics secured as evidence.
In another sting operation in Ahero, Kisumu County, security teams recovered sacks of cannabis worth an estimated Ksh12 million hidden inside a residential house. Four suspects were arrested and placed in custody, pending processing and court arraignment.
Authorities have stressed the importance of community participation in the ongoing war against drugs. Residents have been urged to report suspicious activities to their nearest police stations to help curb trafficking and street crime.
The series of arrests underscores a renewed nationwide focus on disrupting drug supply chains, safeguarding communities, and deterring youth involvement in narcotics. As operations intensify, security agencies have reiterated their commitment to pursuing traffickers and dismantling networks fueling the illegal trade.
