Police across several counties have launched investigations into a string of tragic deaths reported over the weekend, ranging from suspected drownings and murders to road accidents and wildlife attacks.
In Moiben, Uasin Gishu County, a 38-year-old man identified as James Korir was found dead inside a family borehole in what authorities believe to be a drowning incident. His body was recovered and moved to the mortuary for an autopsy as officers work to establish what led to the tragedy.
Still in Uasin Gishu, police in Ainabkoi are probing the suspected murder of 76-year-old Mary Jepkori, whose body was discovered on a footpath just metres from her home. The motive remains unclear, and investigations are underway.
In Mihango, Nairobi County, officers are examining circumstances surrounding the death of a man found in an abandoned quarry. He was discovered wearing a black T-shirt and brown sweatpants. Police suspect he may have drowned or been killed before his body was dumped. Residents have since demanded that the quarry be filled for safety reasons.
A fatal road incident in Ruiru, Kiambu County, sparked unrest after a salon car hit and killed a pedestrian at the Kihunguro roundabout. The driver fled as an angry mob torched the vehicle. The body and the vehicle wreckage were moved to the mortuary and police station respectively.
In Kisumu County, the body of 47-year-old Wilson Kipsang Rono was found beside a motorcycle in Masogo, bearing a deep cut on his cheek. Police suspect foul play.
Separately, in Nairobi’s Donholm and Riruta areas, two men were found dead in unrelated incidents, one on the roadside and another in his bed after complaining of a headache.
A heartbreaking incident was also reported in Baringo County, where a Grade Two pupil from Kampi Ya Samaki Primary School was killed by a crocodile while fetching water at Lake Baringo. Kenya Coast Guard officers and locals recovered the body.
Police say investigations into all cases are ongoing.
