A growing public outcry is demanding swift action from Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen and Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja following the viral video of a foreign national harassing police officers at Diani Police Station in Kwale County.
The disturbing footage shows a visibly agitated Caucasian man confronting two uniformed officers inside the station. He verbally abused them, spat toward one officer, and even blew mucus through his nostrils in their direction. Despite his aggressive behavior, the officers maintained professionalism and composure throughout the encounter.
Investigations reveal that the suspect had earlier been detained for multiple offenses, including assault, malicious property damage, and creating a disturbance at a hotel where he was staying. Hotel staff reportedly called for help after the man attacked his girlfriend, who sustained injuries and was later hospitalized.
Kenyans have taken to social media to condemn the incident, demanding accountability and urging authorities not to allow foreign nationals to disrespect law enforcement officers. Many questioned why the officers tolerated such humiliation and why the National Police Service has remained silent on the issue.
Civil society leaders also criticized the police leadership for failing to defend their officers. They argued that the same police force known for using force against protesting citizens appeared reluctant to protect its own members when the aggressor was a foreigner.
Reports indicate that it took the intervention of hotel security and police to subdue the suspect before he was taken into custody. The video, widely shared online, continues to spark outrage, with citizens calling for charges against the individual for assaulting and insulting officers in uniform.
Calls are now intensifying for both Murkomen and Kanja to ensure justice is served, stressing that no one—regardless of nationality—should be above the law or allowed to demean officers executing their duties.
