Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has issued a stern warning to criminal gangs in Kenya, stating that the government will take decisive and lethal action against any group operating outside the law. Speaking at the Jukwaa La Usalama Busia Chapter event on September 3, 2025, Murkomen emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring peace and security throughout the country.
Murkomen made it clear that any gang, regardless of its size or influence, would not be tolerated. He warned that gang leaders and their members should either change their ways or face the full weight of government action. He assured Kenyans that if local security teams face difficulties, a special team from Nairobi, led by the Inspector General of Police, would be deployed to restore order.
“We must deal with anything called gangs decisively. Goons, gangs, whatever it is, anything that is parallel to government, decisively,” Murkomen said. He further added that the government would not hesitate to use extreme measures if necessary. “Just change today, before we take any drastic decision because we will be very lethal in dealing with gangs,” he stated.
Murkomen also highlighted the importance of unity and control in the country, stressing that Kenya cannot function with parallel authorities. He declared that the government’s authority would be upheld, and no part of the country would be allowed to be overtaken by gangs. He reassured the public that the current administration, under President William Ruto, is fully committed to eradicating gang activity from all regions of Kenya.
To achieve this goal, Murkomen called for cooperation from the public, urging citizens to report any suspicious activities that could indicate the presence of gangs. Public intelligence, he noted, would play a central role in dismantling organized crime. He reaffirmed that the government would work closely with county leaders, security officers, and communities to eliminate any threat posed by criminal gangs.
This strong stance on crime is part of a broader effort by the government to restore law and order, sending a clear message that Kenya will not tolerate any group undermining state power.
