The family of missing security analyst Mwenda Mbijiwe has intensified calls for the government to produce him “dead or alive,” urging the court to issue warrants of arrest against Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai (IG Kanja) and Director of Criminal Investigations George Kinoti (DCI Amin).
During the latest mention of the case, lawyer Evans Ondieki described the prolonged proceedings as a “circus” that has dragged on for four years. He revealed that the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) had only recently informed them that they had been served with the case file, despite the long delay.
“They have been detaining the subject incommunicado for four years. I propose that you issue a warrant of arrest against the IG to bring them to court because they are not here and there has been no communication,” Ondieki told the court.
The family’s demand follows repeated court orders that the authorities produce Mbijiwe, which they claim have been ignored. According to Ondieki, this prolonged silence and lack of accountability have left the family frustrated and desperate for answers.
The ODPP, for its part, confirmed that it is committed to establishing the whereabouts of Mbijiwe. The office emphasized that, as a constitutional body, it has a duty to ensure accountability in cases of missing persons and enforce the law without fear or favor.
The case has drawn public attention due to its unusual delay and the high-profile nature of the officials involved. The family argues that issuing warrants against the IG and DCI is necessary to compel state accountability and ensure that justice is served.
As the matter unfolds in court, all eyes remain on the government’s response to the family’s demand, with many calling for swift action to resolve the four-year mystery surrounding Mwenda Mbijiwe’s disappearance.
