A tragic incident has left residents of Tassia, Nairobi, in shock after a 25-year-old man died following a fall from a kitchen balcony. The incident occurred on September 12, 2025, at an apartment in the area, sparking a police investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.
The deceased, identified as Owen Kiptoo, reportedly fell from the balcony after attempting to access the house through the kitchen door. Initial reports indicate that Kiptoo was in the company of a woman, said to be the owner of the house, and two others before the tragedy struck.
According to accounts, the group had earlier spent time at a bar within Tassia before Kiptoo accompanied the woman to her residence. Upon arrival, she allegedly could not find her keys, prompting Kiptoo to try gaining access through the kitchen balcony. It was during this attempt that he fell, dying instantly.
When police officers arrived at the scene, they noted that the house was in disarray, raising suspicions of a possible altercation before the fall. Detectives have since opened a murder investigation to determine whether the fall was accidental or the result of a fight. The woman, along with two other individuals who were present, has been detained for questioning as inquiries continue. Kiptoo’s body was moved to the mortuary, where an autopsy will be conducted to shed more light on the cause of death.
In a separate incident, a construction worker lost his life in Nairobi’s Kileleshwa area after being struck by a falling log at a building site on Durham Road. The victim, 22-year-old Erick Ochieng, was working at the site on September 9, 2025, when the log fell from the fourth floor and hit him on the ground level. He was rushed to hospital but succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.
Another tragedy occurred the same day in Ndonya, Kilifi County, where a 25-year-old construction worker died after being hit by a falling block. Both cases have prompted investigations by police, county officials, and the National Construction Authority.
Authorities have raised concerns about the growing number of accidents at construction sites across the country, stressing the urgent need for enhanced safety measures to protect workers. Multi-agency teams are working to establish the causes of these incidents and prevent future occurrences.
