A suspect was arrested after returning to a crime scene along Nairobi’s Eastern Bypass with a loaded gun hidden in his socks. Police recovered a Retay Falcon pistol loaded with three rounds of 9mm ammunition concealed on the suspect’s right leg.
The incident occurred after four people stopped their car on the road early Monday morning due to a mechanical breakdown. The group found themselves vulnerable when two men on a motorcycle approached and robbed them of their mobile phones.
Responding promptly to the distress call, police arrived at the scene while a mechanic was assisting the stranded motorists. Unbeknownst to them, the suspects were not finished. The motorcycle returned, this time dropping off a pillion passenger some distance from the crime scene.
The passenger then walked toward the victims, apparently unaware that police were already present. Attempting to blend in, he acted as if he was one of the rescuers. However, police quickly grew suspicious when the man bent down to his right leg. Upon closer inspection and orders to raise his hands, the suspect complied, and officers discovered the concealed firearm.
The suspect, aged 19, was promptly arrested while his accomplice escaped on the motorcycle. Authorities conducted a thorough search and found the loaded Retay Falcon pistol hidden in the suspect’s socks, pressed against his right leg.
This arrest underscores the dangers motorists face when stranded on roads, as opportunistic criminals prey on vulnerable victims during such moments. The swift police response prevented further harm and enabled the recovery of the weapon.
Meanwhile, police are investigating a possible drowning case in Mukeu location, Ngati, Thika, where the body of an unidentified man was found floating in the Chania River near the local water supply area.
Officers at the scene reported that the body was badly decomposed and appeared to have been in the water for several days, trapped by fallen tree branches. With the assistance of divers from Kiambu County, the body was retrieved and taken to the General Kago mortuary in Thika, pending identification and a postmortem examination.
Preliminary investigations suggest foul play, with police suspecting the man may have been killed before his body was dumped in the river. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death in hopes of identifying the victim and bringing any responsible parties to justice.
Together, these incidents highlight ongoing security challenges in Nairobi and its environs, emphasizing the need for vigilance by both the public and law enforcement. The arrest of the armed suspect following his attempt to return to a crime scene shows the risks criminals take, and the determination of police to curb such activities.
Motorists are urged to exercise caution and report any suspicious activity, particularly when stranded or vulnerable on the roads. Police encourage the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement to enhance safety for all road users.
The investigation into the drowning incident continues, with authorities appealing for anyone with information to come forward. These efforts are critical to solving crimes and preventing further tragedies in the community.
