The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has removed Wambui Nyutu from her position as Vice Chairperson, citing continued involvement in partisan political activities a direct violation of her oath of office and the laws governing the commission.
The decision was announced in a statement issued on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, by NCIC Chairperson Rev. Dr. Samuel Kobia, following a Special Commission Meeting. Kobia stated that Nyutu’s conduct had become “untenable” and incompatible with her constitutional and statutory responsibilities as a commissioner.
“The Commission unanimously resolved to relieve Ms. Nyutu of her role as Vice Chairperson of the Commission with immediate effect,” the statement read.
Nyutu has faced scrutiny since early 2025 over what the Commission described as repeated engagement in political activities. The NCIC convened three Special Meetings earlier in the year on January 3, January 23, and February 6 to question her about public appearances and remarks that were seen as politically charged.
Although Nyutu initially denied the allegations, she later issued a formal apology and pledged to refrain from political engagements. However, according to the Commission, she has since continued to attend meetings affiliated with a political party a breach of her commitment and the impartiality expected of NCIC Commissioners.
“At its meeting on 22nd July, the Commission noted with deep concern that Ms. Wambui Nyutu has since been involved in partisan political activities,” said Rev. Kobia.
The NCIC has now initiated the process of removing Nyutu entirely from her role as Commissioner by invoking Section 23 of the National Cohesion and Integration Act (CAP 7N) and other constitutional provisions.
In the wake of her removal, the Commission unanimously elected Dr. Dorcas Kedogo as the new Vice Chairperson, effective immediately.
The NCIC further distanced itself from any political statements made by Nyutu, emphasizing that they were made in her personal capacity and do not reflect the Commission’s position.
“The NCIC reaffirms its unwavering commitment to the principles of impartiality, integrity, and professionalism,” Rev. Kobia concluded.
