The son of Norway’s Crown Princess is under suspicion for a series of serious offences, including three counts of rape and 23 other alleged crimes. The accused, Marius Borg Høiby, who is the stepson of the country’s future king, was arrested three times in 2024 specifically in August, September, and November before being subjected to a lengthy police investigation.
Following a 10-month probe, authorities have now handed over the case to prosecutors, who will determine whether formal charges should be filed. The investigation reportedly involved multiple witness interviews, property searches, and the review of extensive digital evidence.
Although Høiby is closely related to the royal family, he holds no royal title and does not perform any official duties. He was initially arrested on 4 August 2024 in connection with an alleged assault and has remained under scrutiny since.
According to the authorities, Høiby has been cooperating throughout the process. He was questioned repeatedly during the latter part of 2024 and again in early 2025. Among the accusations against him are four instances of sexually offensive behaviour, one count of abuse in a close relationship, and two cases involving bodily harm. Some of the sexual offence allegations have been dropped, either due to the statute of limitations or insufficient evidence.
His legal representation has stated that while he is taking the accusations seriously, Høiby denies most of the allegations, particularly those related to sexual abuse and violence. The police have refrained from revealing the exact number of alleged victims, but confirmed it is in the double digits.
As the matter now lies with the prosecution, it is unclear when or if charges will be officially brought. The Royal House has acknowledged the ongoing legal proceedings but has opted not to make any further comment at this stage.
The developments mark a highly sensitive moment for Norway’s royal family, given the proximity of the accused to the monarchy. The case is likely to attract significant public and media attention as it progresses through the judicial system.
