Authorities in Mombasa have intensified the fight against drug trafficking, with a major breakthrough after the arrest of a notorious drug peddler in Likoni. The suspect was found in possession of 284 large rolls of cannabis sativa (bhang), which had been concealed in a sack inside his house.
The arrest followed a successful operation in the Tonge Nyama area, where police acted on intelligence from vigilant members of the public. According to officers involved in the crackdown, the suspect had been on their radar for some time, and his activities had raised alarm within the community due to the rising cases of drug abuse in the region.
Following the seizure, the suspect was taken into custody and is expected to be arraigned in court to face charges related to possession and trafficking of narcotics. Security agencies emphasized that this marks a significant step in ongoing operations aimed at dismantling drug supply networks across the coastal county.
The operation also highlighted the importance of community cooperation in the fight against drugs. Members of the public provided crucial information that led to the successful raid. Authorities have since urged more residents to remain vigilant and continue reporting suspicious activities to help safeguard their neighborhoods from the harmful effects of narcotics.
In a related incident, police officers in Kiambu County arrested another suspected drug peddler in Githurai 45. The 28-year-old suspect was found with 1,473 rolls of cannabis sativa, 2.1 kilograms of unprocessed cannabis, and Ksh5,470 believed to be proceeds from illicit sales. The coordinated raid followed ongoing efforts to dismantle drug cartels operating within Kiambu and Nairobi’s outskirts.
The two arrests underscore the growing commitment by law enforcement to crack down on drug networks across the country. Authorities reiterated that the war on drugs is far from over, stressing that such operations will be intensified to protect communities, especially the youth, from the devastating impact of drug abuse.
As the suspects await trial, police remain on high alert to intercept more traffickers who continue to fuel the illegal drug market. The successful recoveries in Mombasa and Kiambu send a clear warning that narcotics trade will not be tolerated.
