Police in Changamwe, Mombasa County, have arrested a notorious robbery suspect identified as Stephen Omondi, commonly known as “Omosh.” The suspect, who had been on the run for several months, was captured during a police patrol in the BBC area following intelligence reports about his movements.
Authorities said Omondi has been linked to numerous violent robberies across Changamwe and its surrounding areas. He is alleged to have operated alongside a group of accomplices, often using machetes and other crude weapons to terrorize residents and steal valuables. Police sources indicate that the gang has been on their radar for a long time due to the increasing number of complaints from victims who reported violent attacks and loss of property.
During the operation, Omondi was cornered by officers after attempting to flee from the scene. He was immediately taken into custody and is currently being held at Changamwe Police Station as investigations continue. Detectives are also working to establish the whereabouts of his accomplices, who remain at large. Security teams in the region have launched a manhunt to ensure that all members of the gang are arrested and charged accordingly.
The arrest marks a major breakthrough in ongoing efforts to combat rising insecurity in Mombasa County, where cases of robbery and gang activity have been on the rise. Local residents have welcomed the move, saying it will restore calm in areas that have been plagued by criminal gangs.
Police have called on members of the public to remain vigilant and share any information that could help in the arrest of remaining suspects. They emphasized that cooperation between law enforcement and the community is key to dismantling criminal networks and maintaining safety in the county.
Omondi is expected to be arraigned in court once investigations are completed. His arrest highlights the ongoing commitment by security agencies to rid Mombasa of violent crime and ensure justice for victims affected by his gang’s activities.
